COMMITTEE

We are fortunate to have international celebrities such as Sir Patrick Moore, Dr John Mason and leading members of the  NASA organisation as our advisors, enabling us to offer Durban the foremost advances in Planetarium and Observatory technology and design currently available. In addition, a local member, Hilton Ratcliffe—an internationally acclaimed author and astrophysicist, who co-authored a book with Sir Patrick—is on the planning committee.

Our national associates in Johannesburg and Cape Town, some of whom serve (or have served) on the Board of SALT in Sutherland, such as Professors Philip Charles, Ian Glass and George Ellis are at our disposal to enhance and update our plans so that the most up-to-date facility is eventually built for the city.

The membership of the Astronomical Society of Southern Africa, Durban comprises of civil, mechanical and chemical engineers, IT Specialists and a number of individuals with professional qualifications whose expertise will be given gratis during the planning stages. In addition, a number of local academics in the fields of Astrophysics, Applied Mathematics, Geology etc are either members or associate members of the Society.
